In 1 Samuel 28, Saul faced a terrifying situation. The Philistines gathered their army to fight Israel, and Saul became afraid. He sought guidance from the Lord, but the Lord did not answer him. Instead of patiently waiting and returning to God with a humble heart, Saul chose another path. He asked his servants to find a woman who practiced divination so that he could seek guidance from the dead.

This was a serious departure from God’s command. Earlier, God had clearly forbidden practices involving mediums and spiritists. Saul knew this, yet fear pushed him to seek answers through a source God prohibited. The message he received only increased his despair.

Saul’s experience teaches us an important lesson about our relationship with God. When God seems silent, we must not seek guidance from sources that lead us away from Him. Silence does not mean God has abandoned us. Sometimes God allows us to wait, examine our hearts, or learn to trust Him even when we cannot see the outcome.

In our lives, we may also experience moments when our prayers seem unanswered. When we are afraid or confused, we may be tempted to follow whatever promises quick answers or comfort. But God calls us to remain faithful to Him even when the answer is not immediate.

The right response to God’s silence is not to run away from Him, but to draw closer, pray, study His Word, and patiently trust His plan.
