1 Samuel 30:6
“But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.”
NKJV
This chapter begins with one of the darkest moments in David’s life. When David and his men returned to Ziklag, they found the city burned and their families taken captive by the Amalekites. David and his men wept until they had no more strength to weep. To make matters worse, David’s own men blamed him and wanted to stone him.
David had every reason to become discouraged. He had lost his possessions, his family was missing, and even the people closest to him had turned against him. Yet in the middle of his deepest pain, David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. He did not allow his circumstances to separate him from God. Instead, he sought God’s direction and asked what he should do.
God answered David and assured him that he would recover everything that had been taken. David obeyed, pursued the enemy, and eventually recovered all that had been lost.
This story reminds us that God gives us strength when we have nothing left within ourselves. Sometimes life brings situations that completely drain us emotionally and spiritually. We may cry, feel disappointed, or even feel alone. But those moments can become opportunities to discover deeper dependence on God.
David’s strength did not come from having an easy life. His strength came from knowing God was still with him.
Reflections
There are moments when you may feel that you have reached your limit—tired from studying, working, or carrying burdens others do not see. Even when you feel nobody understands, remember David: surrounded by loss, he chose to strengthen himself in God. When you feel weak, come to God exactly as you are. You do not need to pretend everything is okay. God meets you in your weak moment and gives you strength for the next step.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I praise You for being my comfort. When I am tired, discouraged, or overwhelmed, fill me with Your Holy Spirit and remind me that true peace comes from You. Teach me to trust You instead of giving up, guide my decisions, and draw me closer to You through every trial. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
