In 1 Samuel 22, David was running for his life because King Saul wanted to kill him. He escaped to the cave of Adullam, where his family and many troubled people joined him. David was no longer living in the comfort of the palace. Instead, he was hiding in a cave, uncertain about what would happen next.

David eventually brought his parents to the king of Moab for protection and then stayed in the stronghold. During this time, Saul became increasingly suspicious and angry. He accused his servants of conspiring against him. Doeg the Edomite then reported that Ahimelech the priest had helped David. In his anger, Saul ordered the priests of Nob to be killed. Tragically, Doeg carried out the order, while Abiathar, Ahimelech’s son, escaped and fled to David.

David, however, was also afraid. He ran for his life and hid in strongholds. Yet instead of allowing fear to destroy him, he continued seeking refuge and guidance. God surrounded him with people who eventually became part of his community and leadership journey.

It also teaches us that fear itself is not always the problem; allowing fear to control our decisions is dangerous. Fear can cause us to become suspicious, angry, selfish, and even hurt the people around us. We all experience fear—failure, rejection, financial difficulties, uncertainty about the future, or losing someone we love. But God calls us to respond to fear with faith.

God does not promise that we will never experience frightening situations. But He promises to remain with us through them.
